Opportunities
  • We have between 20 and 30 volunteers working with us at any given time.  If you are interested in finding out more about how volunteers support the work we do please read on.
  • CLINIC volunteers work in the clinic with the nurses and doctors.  The volunteers help to clean and replenish the exam rooms between clients, process specimens and file charts.  This is a great opportunity for clinical experience for anyone interested in a career in medicine.
  • PHONE volunteers interact with clients.  The phone volunteer greets clients, book appointments and directs calls to staff as appropriate.
  • Both CLINIC and PHONE volunteers may be called upon to assist with other administrative duties as they arise (i.e., photocopying, packaging information requests, stuffing envelops).
  • Once clinic and phone volunteers have learned the duties and responsibilities of their chosen area (i.e., phones) they can go on to be trained to assist in the other area (i.e., clinic).  Volunteers who have been with the Halifax Sexual Health Centre for some time are also able to participate in Health Promotion Initiatives.
