Mission: The Halifax Sexual Health Centre is a non-profit, charitable organization that promotes sexual and reproductive health within an environment respecting and supporting individual choice.     Guiding Principles: The Halifax Sexual Health Centre believes that healthy sexuality is positive and life affirming for all people at all stages of life.  Sexual health is a vital component of personal health determined by the social and economic environment, the physical environment, personal knowledge and available capacities and health services. Everyone has the right to have complete, freely-accessible non-judgmental information about sexual and reproductive health.  Equally important, everyone has the right to make informed personal choices about their sexual and reproductive health, free from the imposition of external authorities. The Halifax Sexual Health Centre is an organization that is pro-choice; inclusive and respectful of diversity; youth-positive; gay, lesbian, bisexual positive; focused on the needs of our clients and community; and respectful of client confidentiality. The Halifax Sexual Health Centre endorses the World Health Organization’s definition of sexual health: “Sexual health is... the integration of the physical, emotional, intellectual and social aspects of sexual being in ways that are positively enriching and that enhance personality, communication and love... sexual health involves a capacity to enjoy and control sexual and reproductive behaviour in accordance with a social and personal ethic... freedom from fear, shame, guilt, false beliefs and other psychological factors inhibiting sexual response and impairing sexual relationships... and freedom from organic disorders, diseases and deficiencies that interfere with sexual and reproductive function.”
